Hi everyone! For those of you who don't know me my name is Elle Bacon. I'm 17 years old and I live outside of Boston, Ma. I'm going to be spending 6 months in Panama as an exchange student! Anyone who knows me, knows this program sounds like heaven to me because I'm basically the definition of a Spanish nerd. I watch Spanish soap operas, 1/2 of my ipod is Latin music, I (attempt to) read Spanish books and I'm constantly trying to find new ways to have fun with the language. I'm also really excited because I HATE snow with a passion. Anything under 60 degrees Farenheit is too cold for me. I'm sure I'll get to Panama and be like WOAH it's way too hot, but thats pretty much life isn't it? You always want what you can't have. In Panama I'll be going by Ella, which on paper to the Spanish speaking eye is the word for she and is pronounced like "eya." I'll make sure to tell people that the Ls are pronounced like an L instead of a Y. The reason for the name change is that Elle sounds like El which is the word for he or the. How weird would it be to have an exchange student who said their name was the?
I'm going to try to keep up with this blog as best I can because I know I have friends and relatives and teachers who want to hear all about my experiences. The only problem is that I've noticed when reading other exchange student blogs, is that people tend to not post as much once they've been in the program for a few months. I got a new camera for my birthday and so I'll also try to post a good amount of pictures and hopefully that will keep me motivated to continue blogging. I'm in love with my camera and although I am no photographer, I hope one day to be able to say I am. Most of my pictures will be shot with the Nikon d3000 although I do have a cheap little point and shoot camera for times when bringing a big camera around is either not safe or too much of a hassle.
Basically that's my US story in a nutshell. I'll post the information I have on my Panamanian soon! I think it deserves it's own post.
